I’ve attempted to chart my engineering career to tackle both design and planning projects – it keeps things more interesting that way. Doing so has provided me the synergistic benefit of being a better designer because of my planning experience, and vice versa. Design experience includes both wastewater treatment and conveyance projects as well as some constructed wetlands; and in many cases incorporated construction administration of those projects. For planning, I’ve conducted water distribution system and wastewater collection system master plans, prepared wastewater treatment facility master plans, and conducted reuse studies. More recently, I’ve become heavily involved in asset management for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure, completing a number of AMPs for utilities in Texas.Water is a precious resource – that understanding has always provided a sense of importance to the profession I’m in, and provided me a clear sense of duty and diligence to play a small part in protecting that resource. In this current climate of “do more with less” our water utilities are operating under, I see asset management as an important initiative to balance financial realities with meeting water supply and quality goals.Here’s a few of my projects that I’m particularly proud of (all of which involved working with great teams):• Amarillo Wastewater Master Plan and Asset Management• Tarrant Regional Water District George W.
