As a Service Engineer in the surface chemistry industry, my responsibliites include providing laboratory instrument repairs, upgrades, troubleshooting, installation, preventative maintenance, training, and perform IQOQs in the field. As a Service Engineer it is also my responsibility to manage the West Coast territory and provide service in other territories as needed largely West of the Mississippi.

As a Field Service Engineer I drive revenue by servicing analytical light scattering instrumentation. Key to this role is developing relationships with new and existing clients to determine their needs for additional service and instrument sales. I communicate daily with Wyatt headquarters and customers, via email, phone or in person usually scheduling preventive maintenance and repair services. I maintain an inventory of parts, identify high-use parts and ensure they are available. My main task is performing installations, training, onsite repairs, and IQ/OQ’s. I also provide technical training and phone support.This role also requries reviewing installation requirements, preparing sample analysis reports for review by supervisors and/or Applications Scientists prior to presentation to the customer. I also handle pro-active visits to our regional customers to make sure they continue to be delighted with their Wyatt instruments. Up to 75% of my time is spent in the field, with a regional focus on the Northwest region of the US.

I use HPLC systems to test several lines of SEC-MALS instruments to confirm they are operating appropriately. If they are not, I am in charge of troubleshooting and initiating repairs on them. I also install instruments at costumers' sites. I represent the Quality Control Department on the Process Improvement Team. This team encompasses one individual from every department and we take on projects to improve the company's overall function. We have decreased the average time instruments spend in each department by reviewing and improving standard operating procedures. I have collaborated with our Research and Development team to create new tools that streamline repairs for our service department. Specifically, as a QC technician, I provide real-time data on certain R & D projects to confirm that the tools they are being developed operate properly. I have also trained multiple colleagues on the QC process.
