In Summer 2021, supported by a generous 1:1 matching grant from the E.E. Ford Foundation, we launched FORGE, a new professional learning experience for school leaders who seek ways to learn, grow, and make meaningful change in their schools. FORGE is a year-long engagement that begins with a four-day workshop and continues through the academic year with coaching and peer mentoring as participants take practical steps to implement change. In FORGE, we recognize that transformation is not effortless. It takes strength, vision, determination, reflection, and iterations of hard work. It involves a process of shaping, reshaping, and refining to create the finished work. Like the blacksmith, educators stand in a forge – of ideas about and practices of teaching, learning, and leading. By refining our vision, honing our practices, and reflecting on and adjusting our actions, we can shape ourselves and our schools in remarkable ways. What if, in just two weeks, you could hone your teaching skills, become a more confident educator, build a network of amazing colleagues from around the world, and return to your school with fresh eyes and new energy?Join teachers from around the world for two weeks in late June to explore teaching styles, educational philosophies, and issues facing independent schools. The Klingenstein Summer Institute for Early Career Teachers (KSI) is a fully-funded fellowship and a non-degree, graduate level course at Teachers College, Columbia University. You'll learn from experts in various aspects of independent school education, master teachers from schools across the country, and fellow educators in an atmosphere of intellectual rigor, self-reflective discovery, and collegial support. CORE CURRICULUMIn daily whole-group sessions, you'll cover current issues in education such as equity and inclusion, and cognitive science. You'll meet regularly with fellow teachers from your academic discipline and Klingenstein Center instructors to examine current teaching practice and to develop curriculum and assessments that you can use immediately.
