There should come a time in everyone’s life when we question our purpose, the reason for it all. Perhaps this takes the form of “why am I here?” or “what should I be doing?”Its been a question attempted to be answered for millenia; it is a form of recognition that we are more than the body, a physical dimension; we are even more than the mind, a mental direction; we seek purpose, a spiritual dimension. Is it surprising that when we set our goals in the physical, such as owning a house, a car etc. we become attached to the physical and thus our happiness is limited by the physical, transient? Likewise, when we set our goals in the mental dimension, perhaps positions of power and control, or intellectual achievement, similar limitations are experienced.
I am drawn to the adventure of purpose, for how else can we make wise decisions if we do not know where we are going?Perhaps because looking back, I see how erratic my path has been, I started my career as a research scientist with the MOD, relatively quickly followed by a moment of realisation- I do not accept a well paid job that endangers others. This brought about a significant change in direction and after resigning, I initiated a community project discovering the rewards of working with people. In 1978 I founded my first company. After a solo sail around the world (I ventured on an 90 year old engine-less 34ft gaff yawl, alone), I set up several more successful companies in different places around the world, including USA (Chicago), Caribbean (Puerto Rico), South America, Europe and South East Asia (Singapore and Malaysia). Activities included engineering, manufacturing, consulting, and research. Experience in renewable energy, waste and resource management, environment and social enterprises.Erratic maybe, but it has enriched my experience enabling me to question everything I have done, so I can make better decisions for all that remains to do.
Listed skills include Engineering, Manufacturing, Energy, Strategic Planning, and 26 others.
