Trained outbreakers on how to investigate COVID-19 in K-12 schools, as well as educated them on state and federal guidelines that must be followed. As a university liaison, I trackedcases that took place at universities. Used data analytics to conduct surveillance on the COVID-19 and monkeypox outbreaks and report findings to the county as well as the CDPH.

My primary objective was to gain a better understanding the built environment of drug treatment facilities in Los Angeles County. In addition, I explored the accessibility of the services provided there. My responsibilities included compiling a list of medication assisted treatment facilities and buprenorphine providers throughout the vicinity, creating an observation tool and manual, and leading group members in surveying places that provided opioid treatment programs (OTP) in addition to running analysis and interpreting results.

The primary goal of my research was to collect data on mask wearing behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic using the Systematic Observation of Mask Adherence and Distancing (SOMAD) tool. In addition, I recorded demographic information of individuals who were on commercial streets to investigate the association between mask adherence and COVID-19 case rates in the San Fernando Valley. I also presented findings and produced a technical report that was distributed to stakeholders.

I worked on three projects under Lourdes Baes Conde, PhD, MPH and Ghecemy Lopez, DSW, MAEd. The first one used an evidence-based approach while the other two focused on communication. First, I analyzed data on a cancer program offered through USC and wrote and disseminated a technical report. In the technical report graphs and charts included demographic data of participants in the study compared to the catchment area of Los Angeles County. Secondly, I investigated breast cancer and colorectal cancer communication strategies for different audiences based on age, ethnicity, and gender and created a resource guide. Thirdly, I wrote an article on the importance of cultural competence within cancer care. and distributed an appropriate version to both public health professionals and patients/community members.

I am a Research Assistant for Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Promoting Opportunities for Diversity in Education and Research (PODER). Under the auspices of the NIH Diversity Program Consortium (DPC), BUILD PODER is one of ten NIH-funded BUILD sites that train undergraduates to become biomedical researchers. The primary goal of my research is to broaden our understanding of the cultivable and metabolic diversity of Akkermansia muciniphila, a mucin-degrading bacterial symbiont found in the human gut of most individuals.

I participated in the Research Intensive Summer Experience (RISE) program at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. I conducted bioinformatics research by interning at the Protein Data Bank on campus. The primary goal of my research was to correlate enzymes in the Protein Data Bank to antimicrobial resistance. My responsibility was to use bioinformatics to identify macromolecules that have antimicrobial resistance. Tools I utilized included the CARD database, Uniprot website, and PDB archive. I then applied 3D visualization and literature on in Beta lactamase enzymes to provide information for online research resources.
