In 1999, she followed her passion, began a new career focusing on mental health counseling. As a strong advocate for eliminating mental health stigma, she focuses on educating all minority population to seek professional counseling services. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, American Nurses Association (ANA), National Negro Council of Women, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. As a trailblazer, she established the Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society for professional counselors at Wilmington University. She recently became a member of Delaware Kent County National Association of Parliamentarians.Recently appointed to National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), Examination Sensitivity and Bias Review Committee, grant reviewer for the National Advisory Center for Healthcare Strategies Inc., Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. As an international trained mental health advocate, she emphasized “Diversity, Inclusion and Equity” before it was the “popular” topic of discussion. Ms. Murphy presented to the International Federation of Accountants, Bartley Healthcare, Wilmington University, Chipotle, Newell Group, and other business & professional organizations. Through her dynamic captivating style, presentations align with the organization’s mission, values and goals. She serves as a Human Resource trainer/ facilitator for 3M Company, training resource for Health Advocate companies on topics such as mindfulness mediation and civility in the workplace. Ms. Murphy, the Immediate Past National President of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., a professional nursing organization. Since 2002, she has held leadership positions, President Tau Eta Chapter, Assistant Northeast Regional Director, National Secretary, 1st Vice President. As National President, she served as Tri Chair for National Council of Negro Women 59th Symposium. She established national partnerships with St. Jude’s Research for Children, March of Dimes, American Red Cross, Alzheimer’s Association &, participated with ANA's “Commission on Racism in Nursing” community forum. She holds a dual master’s degree from Wilmington University in Clinical Counseling & Education, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Widener University & Diploma in Nursing from Bryn Mawr School of Nursing. As a licensed board-certified therapist, her private practice is in Wilmington, Delaware.
