The position was geared toward a landscape design assistant, but Ram decided to assign me to the position of a landscape designer. Ram put a lot of faith into my potential. I gained many responsibilities in a short amount of time. Within a couple months, I was taking my own sales calls, meeting with clients, consulting, designing, coordinating with vendors, contractors and communicating design plans with installation crew.

Since obtaining my bachelor degree in landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota, I started in the field as a landscape foreman. I had planned to familiarize myself with the daily challenges of field work prior to becoming a designer. This helped me better understand labor challenges, machine capabilities, site conditions, task delegation and quality control.

The position required little supervision, but I was assigned daily tasks. Organic pest control, disease control and overall quality of the environmental conditions within the orchard became my daily responsibilities. In August, we would gather volunteers to assist with harvesting select apple varieties. During the fall months, events were held for the public to attend. During these events, I was responsible for selling product, managing the sample tables and answering questions.

A building materials associate provides guest assistance to homeowners, contractors and subcontractors looking for building materials to implement their projects. Commercial and residential sales are conducted. Knowledge of various building products and their use is important for a successful sale.

Tasks included raking bunkers, mowing greens, approaches, fairways and teeboxes, trimming hedges and doing many other miscellaneous course cleaning or arranging.
