Through this newly added research opportunity, I have learned the basics of cell splitting using HeLa cells. I am in the process of gaining more knowledge about the research project as a whole, and my team and I plan to perform further experiments to come.

This experience exposed me to special education. My position required me to work will children of all ages (K-12) and help to extend their school year into the summer. I worked with many different students, some with behavioral issues and some with disabilities, to help them complete tasks to further help them succeed in their education. With some students, I worked with them on reading, writing, and math skills. For other students, I worked with them to complete everyday tasks like folding shirts or basic tracing of numbers and letters. This job required complete patience and excellent communication skills.

This experience allowed me to have both a leadership role and a role focused on attentiveness. I worked as an event manager where I was in charge of wedding day necessities, ensuring the wedding coordinator had optimal help when needed, and making sure the bridal party was taken care of in full. It was my job to oversee the steps prior to the wedding ceremony, during the ceremony, and during the reception as well as making sure clean-up was efficient and everything was taken care of properly. I also worked a flipping shift my first year where I set-up for the subsequent wedding the night after a wedding.

Through this experience I learned fly husbandry. With my team, we focused on the dietary impacts on fruit fly development using low-protein, low-carbohydrate, and normal diets. My team and I were fortunate enough to receive first place at the District TriBeta Convention, which occurred virtually during our Spring semester 2022. We were then invited to the National TriBeta Convention in Oklahoma City where we presented our data in the Summer of 2022 and received Honorable Mention.

I worked many different volunteer shifts during this clinic offered at my college, Saint Francis University. This clinic made COVID-19 vaccines available for the university as well as residents to receive healthcare that rural areas may sometimes be harder to come by. I helped with filling out patient vaccines cards and informing the patients of any questions they had. I also worked with scheduling the patients for their booster shot appointments. This opportunity exposed me to those whom I reside with during college and how much of an impact these pop-up clinic have on individuals who lack proper healthcare.
