Dr Samarasinghe is a competent general and laparoscopic surgeon with subspeciality training in trauma/surgical critical care. Dr Samarasinghe undertook surgical training at Westmead hospital and other hospitals in the Sydney West Area Health covering a range of subspecialities including upper gastrointestinal, lower gastrointestinal, head and neck, surgical oncology, breast/endocrine, general surgery and trauma. She further undertook two years of fellowship at Westmead Hospital in Trauma (level 1 trauma centre) and General Surgery. Dr Samarasinghe currently works as a General Surgeon at Westmead Private Hospital, Norwest private hospital, Shoalhaven District Memorial hospital and Nowra Private Hospital. She has experience in emergency general surgery/trauma related operations, bowel resection, appendicectomy, gallbladder operations, hernias, skin lesions, lipomas, sebaceous cysts, pilonidal disease and haemorrhoids. She is accredited with the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) and performs Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy.Dr Samarasinghe is a compassionate surgeon, who strives for excellence in patient care, preoperative, operative and post operative care. She sees the value of good communication and patient participation in decision making. She has a passion to teach and to engage in clinical research. Dr Samarasinghe also speaks Sinhalese and Tamil. She is a director of Australia and New Zealand Association for the Surgery of Trauma and is a member of the chest wall injury society and General Surgeons Australia. Dr Samarasinghe is an examiner for the RACS clinical exam.
