I am Priyanka Sharma, a professional social worker, who is actively working to fight against social injustice in society. With an experience of ~6years, I have been associated with various organizations that work for human rights. I am currently working as Assistant Program Coordinator, Delhi Commission for Women, Project 181 (emergency women helpline) where I manage a team of 40+ members, and together we strive to provide optimum support to complainants. I also facilitate training programs for my team on a regular basis to improve their interaction, coordinate with various state-level agencies to ensure the timely address of inter-state complaints, and act as a bridge between the DCW’s senior officials and the team working at the ground level.In my erstwhile role, I worked with the Gautam Gambhir Foundation (Program Manager, Martyrs Program), where I supported and empowered the children of Martyrs of the paramilitary forces across India, by taking care of their education. It involved a lot of traveling to remote areas in India. Under the project ‘Martyr’s Children program’, I was responsible to conduct informal assessments of martyr’s children, to ensure whether they are happy and safe, and their every education-related requirement was met. During my visits, I met the family members, teachers, and people from the community where the family lived and developed a good bond with them. I tracked the progress of each child on a regular basis and maintained a database for the entire count. Building good bonds with the families of North East would have been very challenging but my knowledge of various languages helped me cut through initial barriers.Previously, I had donned the responsibility of a counselor in Shakti Vahini NGO, under the project Rape Crisis Intervention, in collaboration with Delhi Commission for Women, where I facilitated counseling to the survivors of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, kidnapping, and human trafficking and have also worked with the Anti-human trafficking response team of Shakti Vahini supported by US State Department. These exposures have strengthened my capabilities/confidence in handling such situations with compassion and learn about various challenges at the ground level.
