In this role I led a national team of 7 career advisors at Professionals Australia who worked to assist STEM students to find work experience and then graduate jobs. We faced a situation where: 1. Weakening graduate labor markets were clashing with; 2. A booming supply of graduates,post university deregulation, helping to create; 3. An ultra competitive environment.We decided that our best chance of helping students would be to convince them to take a more strategic approach to job search that focused on personal branding and developing strong networks.The team built a national guest lecture program at Australian Universities to educate students about this strategic approach and along the way helped thousands to find and win the job they wanted.We succeeded because each member of our team really believed what we were saying - that if you help STEM students make the best start, you strengthen the professions and you create an engineered economy where both employers and employees win.
