This included generating reports in PDF format.Customer Shipment Status Report (1 month): Requested by GMS' biggest customer, I developed multiple custom HTML-formatted reports and a mechanism for scheduling and email them to a configurable list of recipients. Applying OOP design methodologies to a primarily procedural language (Progress), resulted in an end product which was reliable, reusable, easily maintained and was completed in only a few weeks.I lead an initiative to integrate third-party APIs into our software speeding up our development process, improving user experience, improving product quality and reducing development costs. New York, Ny, Us
As a senior developer at Datek/Ameritrade Big Think subsidiary, I was responsible for developing Datek's Progress-based, in-house securities clearing application, "Atlas."Alert Direct Subsystem (3 months): Alert Direct is a data warehousing service which provided investor demographic information that Datek wanted integrated into their customer database. Utilizing Progress, ANSI C and unix shell scripts, I implemented an entirely automated process to replace existing manual methods of updating customer information Not only did it save time and effort, it ran continuously and reliably for 1 ½ years with no programming-related problems.Multiprocessing API (2 months): I devised a solution to achieve a 4:1 performance improvement from several Atlas nightly batch jobs whose performance was gradually diminishing. I developed an API to allow the job to split the work among several simultaneous synchronized Progress sessions, achieving a remarkable improvement in throughput. I implemented this system using a simple, yet powerful programming interface that allowed other programmers to quickly benefit from the advantages of multiprocessing to any Progress program.Progress Software Deployment System (3 months): In response to Datek’s mandate to standardize their software deployment process, I designed and implemented a system to allow developers to easily package Progress source code, database schema changes, data changes, and documentation into one file. This file can then be processed by a program that will that reliably and automatically apply the changes to a QA or production environment. This system, which I integrated into RCS version control and Ant. My work improved the software rollout process by making it simpler, more reliable and standardized. After Ameritrade's acquisition of Datek was complete, I was one of the few developers retained to work on the data conversion team to import all of Datek's data into Ameritrade's back-end software.
