Main interests relate to experimental aerodynamics and include the design of test facilities to simulate the various flows within gas turbine engines and the use of advanced instrumentation for the gathering of data. Computational methods are also employed to aid analysis and help design suitable experiments. Synergy of these two techniques is achieved through the use of the high quality experimental data to validate and help develop more robust numerical methodologies. Fundamental aerodynamic research includes diffusing flows, boundary layer separation, wake mixing, secondary flows, and the effects of swirl, curvature and pressure gradients. This extends to more applied geometries and test facilities used to investigate representative system performance and component interaction/integration. Including low emission combustor architectures, compressor/combustor interface, integrated outlet guide vane design, advanced pre-diffuser development, fuel injector feeds and transition duct aerodynamics.Also, cycling aerodynamics, ground vehicle aerodynamics … well anything aerodynamic as it's fun!
