I am a non-executive Director for CSL Limited, a company founded more than 100 years ago that has grown to become a global biotherapeutics leader with 25,000 employees doing business in over 60 countries. CSL Limited businesses comprise CSL Behring, CSL Seqirus and CSL Vifor.After completing medical training at the University of Melbourne and a PhD in Immunology at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Australia, I spent five years doing molecular biology research at the Howard Florey Institute in Melbourne and the National Institutes of Health in the United States. I then spent six years at Genentech Inc in San Francisco, working on gene therapy for Haem A and anti–VEGF therapy for age related macular degeneration. I was recruited to CSL Limited in 1997 as Research Director and promoted to Chief Scientific Officer & R&D Director in March 2000. In 2018 I was appointed as an Executive Director on the CSL Board, maintaining my role as Chief Scientific Officer. In 2016, I was made an Enterprise Professor in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the University of Melbourne, and awarded an Order of Australia for services to medical research.At CSL, R&D is our past and our future.
