I'm a Professor of Health Research Methodology at University of Galway, with roots in nursing and midwifery that grew into a passion for improving healthcare through research. Over the past 20+ years, I've focused on advancing clinical trials and evidence synthesis methods.My work spans:• Scientific Director of the HRB-Trials Methodology Research Network• Director of Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Cochrane Ireland• Authored >300 peer-reviewed publications• Securing €17 million as PI and €100+ million in collaborative fundingKey areas of focus:• Trials methodology• Evidence synthesis methodology• Citizen science• Innovative approaches to health research that prioritise practical applications• Patient outcomes, including developing core outcome sets for clinical research• Enhancing patient involvement in research• Research prioritisation• Mentoring the next generation of health researchersI'm particularly interested in how we can bridge the gap between research findings and clinical practice and/or health policy. My goal is to ensure that our research methods are robust, our evidence is synthesised effectively, and our findings translate into real improvements in patient care.I serve on several international trial steering committees and data monitoring boards, bringing my expertise in trial methodology to diverse clinical areas. I'm also actively involved in developing guidelines that shape health policies globally.
