Professor Verhoef (1944) received his M.D. and Ph.D. in Microbiology at the University of Utrecht where he has been Professor of Clinical Microbiology. From 1978 till 2008 Prof. Verhoef has been Chairman of the Eijkman-Winkler Institute of Medical and Clinical Microbiology at the University of Utrecht. From 1983 to 1990 he was a member of the Dutch Governmental Advisory Board for the Registration of Drugs. He was the founder of Ugene B.V. (CRO) which was later sold to Kendle International. He received several honours and awards and has been a member of advisory boards of many pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He was the founder and first president of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases. He organized several major international meetings. Prof. Verhoef is also a member of the editorial board at several journals. He published over 650 scientific publications in journals and books. In 2009 Prof. Verhoef founded Staphylea Biomedical Consultants to bring strategic advice to pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology companies and the healthcare sector. He has succesfully worked for the Meander Hosptal, Lab. for Infectious Diseases, Is chairman of the Raad van Toezicht RLM Dordrecht, Has adviced many different diagnostic laboratory on various strategic issues (Einhoven, Twente, Dordrecht, etc). Currently advicing healthcare institutions about strategies. Able to bring people together and able to let people see opportunities and challenges. Out of the box thinking! I founded Staphylea biomedical consultants and the world health care forum and act at present as a consultant in the Health Care Sector; assist in strategy planning; in training clinical leaders.

Ugene Biotech and CRO very succesful company after 10 years 200 employees. Sold to Kendle Inc a USA CRO. I founded the company and was able to attract venture capital. The company grew from the start.
