Yan Yang a highly experienced researcher with entrepreneurial spirit. I use technology knowledge, experience in running start-ups, and business thinking to make a positive impact on the commercialisation of latest technology.With more than 10 years’ research in technology development, experience in running and consulting with tech start-ups, I am driven by my passion to transfer research from the lab to products that improve people’s everyday life. I am a professor in Engineering, board member of China Chinese Ergonomics Society, and a visiting academic at the University of Southampton, UK. On completion of my MBA from Henley Business School in 2019, I founded 2 start-ups, WakeSense, a company looking into improve safety and productivity via physiological information; and 1000 Year Tea, a luxury Chinese tea brand. The businesses have gained support from the Greenshoots Seed Finance Award Scheme, Santander Universities Emerging Entrepreneurs Programme, and was awarded of Henley IDEAFEST Best Business Idea and Best Innovative Idea.I currently undertake the role of COO for TaiCaan Technologies, a UK based high-tech company. Previously, I developed a Human-Machine Interaction concept for future high-end vehicles for BWM in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, as programme leader; and created cognitive state evaluation for driving safety based on machine learning, as a post-doctoral researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). My interest is in early stage technology development, technology innovation and commercialisation, business and internationalisation strategies. Over the years, I have gained valuable experience of working in different countries and cultural backgrounds.
