About Dan Sherman
After thirty years of a clinical and research career in Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, I felt the need to focus on quality of life and prevention of cognitive decline as we age. While age-related decline is a natural process, dementia is a disease process that impairs daily functioning and results in a slow-dying, preceding physical death by several years. The alarming increase in the prevalence of dementia with advancing age, coupled with the meagre prospects for a cure or treatment, has led me to explore how it can be prevented. Epidemiological and experimental research suggests the risk for dementia can be cut by as much as 50% just by pursuing a brain-healthy lifestyle. So after retiring from “hectic obstetrics”, I embarked upon a path of self-fulfillment, creating an evidence-based behaviour-change lifestyle program to promote cognitive wellness for the ageing population.
