An Academic Leader and Manager, Research Scientist, Consultant, Author and Technocrat with expertise and knowledge in effective Governance, Management and Administration at the executive level in both Higher Education and Government sectors. Professor Baban has served as Professor and Vice Chancellor, University of Kurdistan Hewler (UKH), Erbil, Iraq, Professor and Vice Chancellor, Cihan Group Universities in Kurdistan-Iraq, the Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. He was also a Lecturer, Professor, Head of School, and Dean/Chairman in several universities in the UK, The Caribbean, and Australia.Professor Baban obtained his PhD and DSc. qualifications in the UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), a Fellow of the Geological Society (FGS), a Fellow of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society (FRSPSoc) and a Fellow of the International Congress of Disaster Management (FICDM). Professor Baban has over 30 years of international working experience worldwide and a successful record of developing institutions, delivering strategic objectives and achieving significant results at the executive level based on strategic planning, team work and informed decision making. He is instrumental in conceptualizing issues, crafting strategies, and effective scientific advisory research and consultancy.His extensive research and academic expertise spans Geosciences, Water Resources Management, Environmental Science and Management, Climate Change Management as well as Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics technologies. He has a multi-disciplinary Geo-based background and working experience in Arid/Semi-Arid (Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, and Jordan), Temporal (UK) and Tropical environments (Malaysia, the Caribbean region, Indonesia and Australia). Professor Baban’s contribution is significant in bridging the gap between research and policy, as well as between knowledge and action, a fundamental part of driving for positive change and also inclusive and sustainable development. Professor Baban has a substantial international record of obtaining and managing research grants, consultancy, and studentships as well as managing multi-faceted research projects. He has authored and edited 23 books, published hundreds of refereed journal papers as well as chapters in books. He is an Editor and Academic Referee for several International, Regional and National Journals. Baban is also serving on the scientific and organizing committees for various international conferences worldwide
