I am a tenured professor of Spanish, former head of the Department of Modern and Classical Languages, and current associate dean of the Reynolds College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities and Letters at Missouri State University in Springfield. I have over a decade of administrative experience in areas such as strategic planning, policy work, hiring and personnel evaluation, budget management, curricular innovation, enrollment management, marketing, advocacy, and conflict resolution. My teaching and research interests include Latin American literature, machine translation and language learning, translator training, self-directed language learning, open educational resources, assessment, and online course development. I present regularly on those and other topics at conferences such as the ACTFL Convention, the Kentucky Foreign Language Conference, the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Foreign Language Association of Missouri, the American Translators Association, and the Mid-America Chapter of the American Translators Association. I chaired the CSCTFL board and serve on the MICATA board and as a member of the ATA’s Education and Pedagogy Committee. I maintain the popular YouTube channel Professor Jason Spanish and Portuguese and have worked extensively as a professional English > Portuguese and English > Spanish translator in the investor relations sector. I hold a Ph.D. in Spanish (Latin American literature emphasis) from The Pennsylvania State University and earned an M.A. and a B.A. in Spanish at Brigham Young University. I also hold an associate's degree in journalism.
