About Prof. Gérald J. Zagury, Eng., M. Env., Ph.D.
Prof. Zagury is an expert/consultant on passive treatment of acid and neutral mine drainage, speciation, and bioavailability of metals and metalloids in polluted soil and groundwater. He is involved in the development of in-vitro protocols to assess oral, dermal, and inhalation bioaccessibility of metals and organics in soils, mine tailings, dust, and consumer products.Prof. Zagury has advised more than 55 masters and PhD students and is involved in industrial research/consulting projects in mining environment, site remediation, environmental chemistry, as well as in human health risk assessment. He is the author of more than 230 peer reviewed publications (including 90 papers in highly reputed journals, 40 papers in international conference proceedings, more than 100 national and international conferences, and 3 patents). Prof. Zagury has also authored more than 40 technical reports on various environmental issues for numerous corporations .He’s an expert/reviewer for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (USA), the Department of Defense (DoD, USA), the OECD, the ANR (France), the Israeli Environment and Health Fund, and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.Prof. Zagury has been involved as a consultant for Bell Canada, Vérificateur Général du Québec, Hydro-Québec, STM, Solvay, Total SA, X-Strata, Alcan, Rio Tinto, Agnico Eagle Mines, Glencore, AtkinsRealis, WSP, Les Laboratoires Vaporus, Environment Canada, Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, and Health Canada.Prof. Zagury is associate editor for Environmental Geochemistry and Health and regularly acts as a reviewer for Environmental Science and Technology, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Chemosphere, and The Science of The Total Environment. Prof Zagury is a member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and member of the American Chemical Society (ACS).
