I have worked in the telecommunications industry for over 20 years as a software engineer, product manager, engineering manager, and project manager developing software for mobile phones. Though this career has allowed me to grow professionally and has been both challenging and rewarding, I really would like to work in an area I have grown passionate about. My job has enabled me to travel to many countries and experience different cuisines. I learned from those cultures through sampling local food and returning with cookbooks for me to replicate recipes in my own kitchen. I often find myself thinking about ways to use techniques from one culture with ingredients from another to create different foods. After researching various jobs in the food industry, I discovered that becoming a food scientist would be an excellent way to combine my desire to create new foods for many people with my experience with working in an R&D environment, as well as my experience tasting many different cuisines in the country they originated. Therefore, I have started taking the undergraduate prerequisites this spring at Texas Woman's University to enter the Food Science graduate program. I am estimating that I can achieve an MS in Food Science in the Fall of 2015, though I am open to co-oping prior to graduation, which may extend my graduation date.
