Products and Services (P&S) is a key function under Group Technology Services in Vodafone Group. Driven by product and technology innovation, this team develops mobility applications, which are used by millions of Vodafone’s customers worldwide. P&S has portfolio of various self-care, Cloud and m-Commerce products. The function strongly promotes frugal engineering and technical innovation for developing these products. The development team is empowered to experiment various open source technologies. It is already working on some of the state-of-the-art technology components such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), OSGi and Scala frameworks, Near-Field-Communication and TIBCO. It is under the process of developing a robust API framework which are exposed to various large internet players such as Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Sky Sports etc. As part of its mCommerce portfolio, it has recently rolled out world’s first mobile based credit-card services, using NFC capabilities of mobile handsets. These products are currently being used by millions of Vodafone customers, across most of European markets. There are big plans for increased proliferation of these services across 60 markets, in which Vodafone operates on its own or through local partners. Besides enhancing existing services for newer market rollouts, India development team will also be expected to innovate newer products for emerging markets, using frugal engineering methods. I am responsible for managing the operations of relevant services, targeted at end customers. These are primarily in self-care and cloud service areas. The responsibility covers managing production operations within agreed SLAs and KPIs, maintenance. We are operating now from Pune, India to support and deliver into Group Technologies to support multi-Opco operations.
