About Mazhar Ali

An interdisciplinary product and research scientist with proven success, Maz is versatile enough to operate in both industry and academia. He’s stepped into leadership roles (and helped grow) multimillion dollar companies as well as a a top international research institute. As the Chief Scientist of Ketos Inc., he built and led his development team and invented the water quality and quantity management devices which allow for completely automated water safety analytics, and has resulted in the start-up being valued at over 50 million USD. He lead the Alexander von Humboldt research group at the Max Plank Institute for Microstructure Physics researching novel materials for next generation electronic devices, after winning the Sofja Kovalevskaja Prize, which is a research grant worth 1.65 million Euros. He also won the MINERVA ARCHES Award given to outstanding German-Israeli research teams for his discovery of the Titanic Magnetoresistive effect in the 2D material, tungsten ditelluride (WTe2) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tungsten_ditelluride), which has led to over 1500 publications and WTe2 being one of the most important 2D materials today. He now leads the AliLab as Associate Professor at TU Delft and is part of the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience, where his team discovered the Josephson Diode Effect (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephson_diode). Maz currently leads the Kavli Institute Innovation Award consortium on Quantum Materials for Quantum Transduction. He also serves as Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Material Mind Inc.Maz has published 70+ papers and has several patents on the subjects of solid state chemistry, solid state physics, materials science, water quality and quantity monitoring in addition to giving numerous lectures at universities and conferences.
