Prof Pete Osborne is the Professor of Advanced Manufacturing at the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, where he plays a leading role in developing the AMRC's technology strategy. Pete has worked at the AMRC for more than 18 years, working on a wide range of industrially focussed research programmes for companies such as Boeing, Rolls-Royce and Siemens Gamesa. In 2013. Pete won a BAE Chairman's Bronze award for work developing a 3D tool wear measurement approach as part of which enabled them to make multi-million-pound savings on the tooling for the F35 programme. Pete’s current research focus is on the development of road mapping processes to provide foresight on future technology, workforce and supply chain needs of the UK. He is a Chartered Engineer with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and is the Principal Investigator and Director of the Innovation Launchpad Network+; a £6.75m network established in 2022 to connect academics across the UK with the Catapult network. Pete is also a co-investigator in the £5.7M AURA Centre for Doctoral Training in Offshore Wind and the Environment.Pete leads and coordinates the AMRCs research in the lower Technology Readiness Level space (TRL 1-4), developing the research vision and working with the rest of the research office to ensure that our pipeline of research is realised and creates impact. He works with colleagues across the university to coordinate research roadmaps, ensuring the long-term relevance and sustainability of the group. Alongside this, he is a key contributor to the development and delivery of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult’s (HVMC’s) manufacturing process technology strategy.

This requires me to interact and lead activities with academia, partner businesses, wider industry and funding bodies such as the ATI and EPSRC and convene and support consortium building to drive new CR&D projects.I am a Co-Investigator in the EPSRC Aura Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Offshore Wind Energy and the Environment where I act as Industry Stakeholder Manager and deliver a module on ‘Materials and Manufacturing for Offshore Wind’ as a visiting lecturer at the University of Hull.
