As a Professor of Solar Physics and Academic Lead of UCLan Space at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), I have over 10 years of experience in conducting and leading cutting-edge research on the Sun and its interaction with the Earth. I am also the recipient of the prestigious Royal Astronomical Society Annie Maunder Medal 2021 for outstanding outreach and public engagement in astronomy.My research expertise includes multi-wavelength observations and theoretical modelling of the dynamic solar corona, the outer layer of the Sun's atmosphere that produces spectacular phenomena such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections. I am the institutional principal investigator of two NASA sounding rocket programmes, Hi-C and MaGIXS, that aim to capture high-resolution images and spectra of the solar corona. I have published 46 peer-reviewed journal papers, including one in Nature and one in Science, and secured over £1 million in research grants.Besides my research, I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for solar physics and space science with the public, especially young people and underrepresented groups. I am the UK National Outreach Coordinator for the International Astronomical Union and a STFC Leadership Fellow in Public Engagement. I have delivered over 70 public talks and presentations across the world, as well as engaging with various media outlets and online platforms. I also mentor and supervise students and early career researchers in solar physics and public engagement.
