About Sarah Perks
Sarah Perks is an interdisciplinary curator, filmmaker, artist and writer. She is Professor of Curating and director of MIMA Research Unit, based in the School of Arts and Creative Industries at Teesside University and at MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) in North East England. A specialist in relational curatorial strategy, and one of Creative Review’s 50 Creative Leaders in 2017, Sarah has led major participation, performance and curatorial projects with international artists including Rosa Barba, Phil Collins, David Lynch, Rachel Maclean, Noorafshan Mirza & Brad Butler and Qasim Riza Shaheen, and collaborates with national organisations including British Film Institute and Natural England. Sarah is currently working on curatorial research for nature recovery, creative technology and design, and co-leading masters level apprenticeships in Curating and Cultural Leadership. Sarah has published over twenty essays and books across critical and creative writing, including Artists Moving Image in Britain Since 1989 (Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art & Yale University Press, 2019). Sarah is also co-director of artPost21 with Dr Omar Kholeif, one half of artist duo Forms of Circulation with Dr Paul Stewart, and trustee of Alchemy Film & Arts (Hawick, Scotland), Editor for Engage Journal of Visual Art Engagement and Participation, and was Programme Advisor (Artist Moving Image) for the BFI London Film Festival. www.sarahperks.co.uk
