Prof Lee-Ann Steenkamp (Phd) Email and Phone Number
I am a tax lecturer at the Stellenbosch University Business School, where I teach on the MBA and various other postgraduate programs. I am a National Research Foundation (NRF) rated researcher – a rare accolade which is bestowed on academics with exceptional research output. For my PhD in Public Law which I obtained from the University of Cape Town, I examined the transition from the old Kyoto Protocol to the new Paris Agreement on Climate Change. I also hold a Master’s degree in Taxation and am a registered Master Tax Practitioner (SA). My research focuses on 'green tax' issues, including biodiversity conservation, the taxing of energy use in developing countries and most notably South Africa's new carbon tax. I supervise numerous Master's and Doctoral students and frequently publish in peer-reviewed journals, am a contributing author to a number of books and university-prescribed textbooks and I present at international conferences. I'm a member of the steering committee of the Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa. I advise on carbon tax policy matters and serve on the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Carbon Tax subcommittee which provides input to National Treasury, as well as serving on the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF).
