  • Wood Consulting
    Consultant/Author
    Wood Consulting May 1994 - Jan 2024
I'm more of an author nowdays rather than a consultant. As a consultant, I worked in the arenas of Data Analytics, InfoSec, and IT Infrastructure consulting. I have consulted in Java/.Net architectures, Oracle/SQL Server/Informix databases, and Apache/Windows Server networks. I was responsible for a host of tasks, including development of new and innovative products designed to enhance big data analysis and security products. As an author, I was the lead author of OLE DB and ODBC Developer's Guide (Formally entitled Visual C++ Database Developer's Guide) (IDG, 1999), Visual J++ Secrets (IDG, 1998), Visual J++ (Prima, 8/96), Using PowerBuilder (QUE, 1996), and Using Watcom SQL (QUE, 1995). I was a contributing author to Client/Server Unleashed (Sams, 1996) and Using Turbo C++ (QUE, 1995). I developed the outline for the Using Oracle book soon to be published by QUE Publishing. All my books typically range from 600 to 900 pages. I also served as a magazine columnist for several trade magazines including The PowerBuilder Developers Journal, The PowerBuilder Advisor, PAD (PowerBuilder Application Developer), and PowerSource.Four of my books were first-to-market. (Publishers often race to complete their books before other publishers.) Three of my books are "best sellers" in that they sold more on their topic than any other book that covers the same topic. Four of my books have been translated into at least one other language.
