I’m a sucker for stories.If it looks like a story, smells like a story, sounds, feels, moves, lives and breathes like a story, I’ll probably fall head over heels for it. When I was ten years’ old I decided I was going to dedicate my life to writing stories. After university, I decided I also wanted to teach them too. And now I’m a little bit older, I do both those things: write and teach. On the teaching side of things, I get paid to share my story obsession with captive audiences of 11-18 year-olds. Currently, I teach English at KS3 & KS4, English Literature and English Language at KS5.I also teach KS3 Drama, run the creative writing club, and promote creative writing opportunities for students, as well as manage student involvement in Poetry By Heart. The bit I enjoy most about my job is when students share their personal creative writing with me and I have the privilege of encouraging and growing them in their writing ambitions. My PGCE is in English and Media so I also have experience in teaching Media at KS4 & KS5 and A-Level Communication Studies. On the writing side of things, since there’s nothing I love more than a powerful exposition followed by anxiety-inducing rising action, a dramatic climax, unexpected falling action and satisfying dénouement, I have written five novels, self-published three of them, had one longlisted in a novel competition and had a short story shortlisted and published in a writing competition. But I don’t just love writing and teaching stories, I also love the written word in all its forms and love nothing more than being part of a creative project that brings a story to life. As well as a taking a proofreading course, I have done some writing and editing for a small charity that involved:• Writing articles for magazine publications.• Writing internal policy documents.• Writing scripts for promotional films.• Editing articles and documents translated into English or written by contributors whose first language isn’t English.• Proofreading a range of materials. In my spare time I help with a children’s puppet group, which includes writing scripts for puppet shows.
