My colleagues and I collaborated in the teaching of the elementary and middle school English language curriculum set forth by the Japanese Ministry of Education. I created and implemented student-focused lesson plans with practical, interactive activities for real-world application designed to capitalize on student strengths and interests, foster intellectual curiosity, and support English language acquisition and cultural fluency. I also supported the regular and special needs education communities by facilitating extracurricular programs to promote bilingual critical thinking and intercultural communication skills.

Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina Area

As a member of the Cedar Fork Elementary first grade teacher team, I facilitated student exploration and mastery of the core curriculum in a diverse international community of educational professionals and families. I provided opportunities in and outside the classroom for students to learn, engage, apply, and reflect on core concepts in English language reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Utilizing the online Seesaw platform, students and families received daily updates on student progress, successes, and challenges. Co-chaired committees, designed PR media, and facilitated the 14th annual Cedar Fork Elementary Family Cultural Festival for 2019.

As a substitute teacher for WCPSS, I supported fellow teachers in their absence (when my full-time school was on holiday) by following provided lesson plans to instruct young scholars in elementary English, reading, math, science, social studies, and history in classrooms of 20-40 students. I provided provided compassionate classroom management with positive reinforcement.

As an English language tutor for Japanese businessmen and their families, I created engaging and practical tutoring lessons for all age groups designed to cater to their individual needs and language learning goals. This included Business English for electricians and software engineers; English and single-subject tutoring for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school students; and test preparation for the Japanese Eiken middle school exam.

Carrboro, North Carolina, United States

As a volunteer English language tutor, I supported adult immigrants and refugees transitioning to life in the United States and pursuing English language fluency and United States citizenship. I designed multi-point lesson plans to help students master the language and cultural skills and understandings necessary to navigate both daily life and employment in the United States. Donated a total of 156 hours of volunteer instruction to support this community.

Interviewed religious participants in regional communities to catalog oral histories and assess challenges being faced within these communities. Authored Harvard Pluralism profiles for Vedic Center of Greenville, Community of Khmer Buddhist Monks Temple Watsaosoksan of South Carolina, Carolina Buddhist Vihara, and the Hindu Society of Greater Spartanburg. Presented findings at Belmont Abby College, NC. Received Cuthbert E. Allen Fellow Award for the promotion of interfaith dialogue.

Collaborated with the Furman Religion and Asian Studies Departments to plan and facilitate the 2010 Association of Asian Studies Southeast Conference. Handled public relations for the Student Cultural Life Program. Provided faculty research support under the Cate Fellowship. Performed data entry and designed marketing materials using Microsoft Office Suite. Responded to inquiries by students, staff, faculty, and parents. Updated and reorganized filing system. Transported students and religious leaders between the University and religious venues for the purpose of promoting interfaith exchange and education. Gave public lecturers on our transforming pluralistic society.

Represented the United States of America as a Delegate in a global youth leadership program with related travel to India, Singapore, Japan, and Oman. Collaborated with youth leaders from Europe, South America, Asia, and the Middle East to promote diplomacy and peace. Supported education course as teaching assistant. Served on the General Affairs Committee, responding to fellow participant inquiries and assessing program efficiency. Participated in peace/conflict management project think-tanks and gave presentations on various aspects of American regional culture.
