Peter Smith applies over two decades of experience in computer forensics, electronic discovery, information security and complex criminal investigations to perform complex high-tech investigations. During his career, Peter has performed computer forensic investigations related to intellectual property theft, trade secret theft, human resource issues, computer intrusions and Internet investigations and provided expert witness testimony. Peter also draws upon his background in information security to assist clients with issues involving incident response, information risk assessments and system audits. Before founding SMITH DFI, Peter was the Director of Computer Forensics and Investigations for Precision Discovery, Inc. Northern California territory serving as the lead point of contact for client operations. Prior to that, Peter was a member of the IT risk consulting services group at a Fortune 250 company as well as a member of the high-tech investigations and IT risk consulting practice at another international consulting company. Peter also gained expertise in information protection, business acquisition and wireless security issues as a specialist at a regional information security firm. Prior to entering into the private sector, Peter interned with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement assisting in high level multi-national smuggling and fraud investigations and worked in law enforcement with the Sacramento County Probation Department; then later as a Special Agent with the California Department of Justice Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. As a Special Agent with the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, he performed complex criminal investigations including narcotics trafficking, distribution and manufacturing, drug interdiction, robbery, fugitive apprehension, violent criminal apprehension, criminal intelligence analysis, rapid response, and undercover operations.
