I am a fierce advocate of self-paced learning and competency-based education (CBE). The currently prevailing model of higher education, which is also called "assembly-line education", was established during the 2nd industrial revolution, and not changed since. It won't change on its own, despite overwhelming evidence shows that it does not work. That's why I founded NCLab (http://nclab.com).
