It has recently begun an effort to recommence teaching and research in the field of Civil Engineering by expanding the existing Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences with new University Chairs from the area of Building and Construction, in alignment with the innovative, interregional and cross-disciplinary studies concept BLU (Bauen - Landschaft - Umwelt).I have the honour and responsibility to be appointed at the new Chair and Laboratory for Concrete Structures and Infrastructures (Massivbau) to support this exciting endeavour. My aim is to establish technical leadership on sustainable solutions for all life-cycle phases of civil and structural assets and deliver high-end teaching in conceptual structural design, construction techniques and technologies with various materials whilst emphasising structural concrete design, construction, maintenance and recycling. Furthermore, in tight collaboration with my faculty and academic and industrial partners, we shall render Rostock a prominent destination for students and scholars in civil engineering, with attractive bachelor's and master's curricula as well as cutting-edge research projects and facilities.
