My clients are operational units, both existing and projects.Bellow is a summary list of my activities pertaining to each of the 4 main components of my scope in this position.ENERGY EFFICIENCY: optimization of end-use consumption• 71 projects; total saving: US$ 90 MM• Identification of projects to optimize consumption• Investment estimates and economic analyses• Design of a Performance Contract structure compatible with the governance of large companies• Definition and negotiation of performance indicators for elevant energy systems• Energy management: a combination of the former items plus communication and routine procedures, in line with ISO 50,001 standardPOWER SYSTEMS: access to the grid by new operations or changes in the connection configuration of current operations• Total load managed (2015): 1,900 MW (2.5% of the Brazilian national grid)• Adjustment of power contracts• Authorization processes for power lines, substations, generation units etc.• Transfer of assets to local utilities (typical of Brazilian regulation)• Access of consumer units to the transmission gridENERGY SOLUTIONS: development of energy generation projects to support mining activities; definition of the most adequate business model for each project• Total capacity designed: 495 MW and 626 t/h of steam• Types of projects: natural gas cogeneration, biomass cogeneration, wind and solar pv• Business arrangements: independent power producer, energy service providerPOWER & NATURAL GAS MARKETS: as a free consumer, Vale purchases its own electricity and natural gas through bilateral contracts. The Ministry of Mines and Energy is responsible for all public policies related to the energy and mineral sectors.As General Coordinator, I was in charge of the energy efficiency portion of these policies.Examples of my work are listed below.• Definition of energy efficiency standards for:- commercial buildings- domestic stoves and ovens- light private vehicles- refrigerators and freezers- electric motors- air conditioners- compact fluorescent lamps• Design of incentives to the use of solar water heatersI have taken diferent positions along this period. In order to properly design the policies to the energy sector, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has to be up to date with current and future energy-related technologies.My role was to support the Ministry in this regard, through activities such as the following:• Study and evaluation of new technologies (electric and hybrid vehicles; biogas production, fuel cells, solar pv)• Contribution to international collaboration agreements:- setting up gas turbine production industry in Brazil- bioenergy research
