The Communications and Development Director promotes the mission of the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre to current and potential donors, funders and the larger community and provides leadership in all areas of development and communication. Responsible for all marketing, promotions, media relations, branding and audience development.

The Communications Director develops and implements media strategies that promote a positive brand identity for the San Luis Obispo Symphony and works with staff to ensure the consistent delivery of all messages relating to the orchestra’s mission and programs. As spokesperson for the organization, the Communications Director is the public face of the Symphony, fulfilling media requests, actively seeking coverage for the full spectrum of orchestra activities and determining the positioning of news releases and any press events. The Director maintains close contact with all media outlets for promotional purposes as well as for in-kind sponsorship opportunities. Additionally, the Communications Director oversees all marketing efforts, working to develop and implement programs that help the orchestra achieve its attendance and ticket sales goals, while also promoting its image and visibility. The Director is responsible for season subscription and renewal campaigns, advertising and special promotions, direct mail campaigns, and any merchandising efforts. He/she oversees all box office matters, both in house and through the Performing Arts Center, ensuring consistent and positive customer service. The Director also maintains an ongoing analysis of ticket sales and subscription trends, in order to better serve the current Symphony audience and encourage the development of new patrons. Finally, the Communications Director supervises the creation of all publications (newsletter, concert program, etc.) and works side by side with the Development Director to ensure that all external communications, whether of a development or marketing perspective, are consistent with the Symphony’s mission and in tune with the overall focus and culture of the organization.
