I am a retired US Air Force officer. Twice I have been an Air Force Junior ROTC instructor. I am now with the National Weather Service.In my military career I deployed three times in support of peacekeeping and contingency operations: to Bosnia in 1996, to Iraq in 2003 and to the British Indian Ocean Territories in 2005. Keeping the focus on warfighter needs during my career as a weather officer was a point of pride for me. In this regard, I oversaw the publication of the first-ever stand-alone METOC (meteorological and oceanographic) operations chapter in an Air Force tactics manual. Another highlight was my successful advocacy for a seamless presentation of weather information in the Arctic region.Following military retirement, I worked in the field of secondary education as Aerospace Science Instructor in Tucson, Arizona, as an assistant with in-school suspension (not as bad as it sounds!) in Anchorage, Alaska and as Senior Aerospace Science Instructor in Cabot, Arkansas. Being in education was quite frankly just fun at times. But it's also serious work helping young people to learn and accompanying them on the path to maturity. Education is a remarkable profession.I am now grateful to be employed with the National Weather Service in Anchorage, Alaska working in support of the Federal Aviation Administration at the Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Facility.
