1. Research on Leishmania infantumPrevious research in lab showed that L. infantum infection increases lipid bodies in macrophages. Lipid bodies have the potential to modulate immune responses. It is becoming evident that many immune responses of males and females differ in various parameters. We hypothesize that the dissimilar parasite load in male vs female macrophages is mediated at least in part, by the differences in expression of lipid bodies. Thus, I worked on identifying and analyzing the sizes, shapes, localities, and spacial correlation of lipid bodies via Matlab and Microsoft Excel. This project aimed to develop additional protocols to analyze further parameters in images of lipid bodies in macrophages.2. Research on the Effects of Extracellular ATP on Cellular Actin Fibril's CharacteristicsPrevious studies showed elevated levels of extracellular ATP present in inflammation (bovine mastitis, asthma, etc). Extracellular ATP was demonstrated as an inflammatory mediator producing effects on cells including modulation of permeability, with P2X7 receptor being an important component in the inflammatory pathway. Thus, I worked on conducting data analysis on ATP-treated vs no treatment actin filaments via R program.

Worked closely with the Director of International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) and six other coordinators to welcome international students to UNI, helped them navigate academic and student life at UNI, and ultimately, enable them to make a smooth transition to the American culture.• Coordinated and facilitated with all orientation sessions for incoming international students.• Introduced new international students to UNI, interacted with them weekly, mentored them with questions and challenges, and directed them to appropriate UNI services.• Planned, organized, and implemented cultural and social events and activities sponsored by ISSO.
