I did my in-service training as a Laboratory analyst at Botswana Ash SA.My role is to analyse Soda Ash Dense and high purity which is also known as Sodium Carbonate by using five different analysis such as : Total Alkalinity, Chlorides, Mass loss on drying, Particle size distribution and TOC as organics. And also to report the results to the customers.My daily duties inclutes:-RECEIVING OF SAMPLESTrain samples and customer samples-Preparation of samples before analysis-ANALYSING SAMPLESParticle size distributionTotal AlkalinityChloridesMass Loss on DryingOrganics as TOCWeekly duties- Calibration of scales and pH electrode- Changing of eye wash bottle water- Preparation of weekly solution- Standardization of HCL and AgNO3- Reporting the results to the customers

I did my P2 training at NCP chlorchem in the QC (Quality Control) laboratory specializing with water analysisMy daily duties includes1. Water analysis - To determine water hardness in plant water using AAS ( Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy), determination of Magnesium (Mg), Calcium (Ca) and Iron (Fe) in boiler water, cooler water and boiler softened water. - Determining the pH of plant water - Determination of BaCl2 (Barium Chloride) for Boilers - Alkalinity - Caustic - Chlorate - Acid and base titration2. Anolytes - Determination of Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) for Brines using AAS ( Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) - Determination of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) - Caustic and Carbonate - Acid and base titration - Sulfates - Available chlorine - Chlorate - Sg for Old Pure Brine and New Pure Brine3. Catholytes - Determination of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) for TLP misc - Determination of Chlorate - Caustic - Available Chlorine for Hydrochloric Acid and Sulphuric Acid - Sg for Hydrochloric Acid and Sulphuric acid - Determination of Iron (Fe) using UV-VisI am also doing sampling, sample preparation, preparation of standards and reporting of results. I can also analyse raw material and Sodium Hypochlorite.
