About Puran Chen
I am a Medical Doctor at Karolinska University Hospital, and a Postdoctoral Researcher in Professor Hans-Gustaf Ljunggrens group at Center for Infectious Medicine at Karolinska Institutet. I received my PhD in 2020, studying human immune cells in organotypic lung tissue models and its interaction with stromal cells in the context of infection and inflammation. I have extensive experience in conducting experimental wet-lab research, translational research, as well as conducting clinical trials during the COVID-19 pandemic and co-authored 20+ peer-reviewed scientific articles. I have a big passion for medical data and the future of medical AI, and my current work focus on studying COVID-19 as a model for systemic, hyperinflammatory conditions such as sepsis. My wish is for my cross-disciplinary experience within clinical medicine and experimental biology, as well as my genuine passion for artificial intelligence - to be a bridging force between engineers, clinicians and researchers in the strive towards improving human health.

CurrentPostdoctoral Researcher in Professor Hans-Gustaf Ljunggrens group, focused on SARS-CoV-2 research. In my role, I have been a central part of coordinating clinical trials and building a research and biobank infrastructure for Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital's joint SARS-CoV-2 sample collection consisting of over 500 patients during the start of the pandemic in 2020. My research interest lies in machine learning and deciphering clinical disease phenotypes using multi-omics integration with clinical data.
