Dr. Purnima Mane has devoted her career to the promotion of women's health and empowerment. As a recognized global expert on gender, HIV and sexual and reproductive health issues, she has pioneered work in advancing the rights of women, young people, maternal health and family planning. She has held senior management positions in the UN and international non-profit organizations working in the field of global health and development for nearly 25 years including as Deputy Executive Director, UNFPA and as Chief Fund Portfolio Director, the Global Fund to Fight Tuberculosis and Malaria, as well as at the Population Council as Vice President International Programs, and at UNAIDS and the World Health Organization. Prior to that, for over a decade Dr. Mane worked on public health and gender issues as Associate Professor in the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, in her home country, India Most recently, as President and CEO of Pathfinder, Dr. Purnima Mane led ground-breaking programs on sexual and reproductive health in 20 countries and global advocacy on sexual and reproductive health policies and rights. In May 2018 she was appointed Member, Board of Governors, International Development Research Centre. Dr Mane holds a doctorate degree from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai, India, and was a post-doctoral Fulbright Fellowship recipient. She is fluent in English, French, Marathi and Hindi.
