Arthur Maxwell Powell II is a first-year student in the Doctor of Philosophy program in Applied Sociology and Social Justice at Morgan State University. In 2024, he earned a Master of Divinity from Duke University Divinity School, where he was a Thriving Communities Fellow and earned certificates in Baptist Studies, Black Church Studies, and Preaching. In 2020, Arthur earned a Bachelor of Art in Sociology from Morgan State University as a Benjamin A. Quarles Undergraduate Scholar. He aspires to use his knowledge, gifts, and abilities to work in the sociological research, higher education, and Christian Education sectors.Arthur’s research interests include: social organizations, social movements, and sociological theory with a population focus of the Black Church. Regarding theology, Arthur is drawn to the studies of homiletics, Christian ethics, and the intersection of the social gospel and sociology.
