I provided cover at short notice to students embarking on the Professional Policing degree. I created, presented and delivered the teaching utilising all resources available to me and a blended methodology. I worked with a supportive small team of lecturers and liaised directly with the course co-ordinator to ensure my course contents were aligned to the learning objectives

Joint Investigations

I lead a busy and challenging team within a collaborated unit servicing three counties, overseeing and driving the investigation of major crime. My role requires effective engagement with a range of external and internal partners, often at a time of intense activity and pressure. The need for a delicated and yet penetrating approach is paramount, successfully challenging and evolving responses to ensure the most productive outcomes.

Major Crime Unit

I served as a senior investigator officer responsible for managing, enquiry teams, major investigations and the HOLMES (Home Office Large Major Enquiry System) incident room, serving the three counties of Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridge. I managed a team of 32 staff, overseeing the delivery of serious investigations and implementing an extensive change programme designed to optimise resources and provide exceptional service delivery whilst meeting demanding austerity measures. I oversaw the implementation of an upgraded version of the HOLMES database, ensuring the transition of operation with minimal impact on operational delivery, securing training and managing extensive amendments to existing policies and procedures. This transition was achieved successfully over a period of eight months, supported by regular review and proactive problem solving.

Serious And Organised Crime Unit

As a senior investigating officer managing the Financial Investigation Unit, I was tasked with the disruption and dismantling of organised crime networks, using a range of tactics and techniques including covert intelligence gathering and ultimately confiscation of assets. I managed significant change to working practices during this time, implementing restructuring initiatives whilst supporting staff faced with change to their working conditions and potential job losses. I ensured that staff were kept informed at every stage of the process, supporting concerns through open communication whilst ensuring service delivery was not negatively impacted.

Economic Crime Team

I implemented and developed this unit, developing an asset recovery function to serve Bedfordshire in response to the implementation of the 2006 Fraud Act.

Specialist Operation

I was seconded to a specialist conspiracy investigation developing intelligence around the activity of and an organised crime group. The investigation centred on a range of serious offences committed across the south east region of the UK.

In a challenging geographical area with diverse communities with high levels of both violent and serious acquisitive crime, I held responsibility for investigations, from initial planning and strategy setting, pursuing lines of enquiry, completion of case papers through to presenting evidence at Court. I oversaw a significant caseload ensuring effective prioritisation of deadlines and objectives and managed a wide range of cases from fraud and acquisitive offences through to violent crime. I consistently delivered the very highest standards of evidence to support subsequent convictions. During this time, I served on a specialist child protection unit, investigating cases and ensuring compliance with all safeguarding requirements. These are among the most serious of offences and require a sensitive and tenacious approach whilst ensuring tight legal timelines are observed. I was also an active contributor to a force working group, tasked to develop policy and procedure to provide an effective response to, and investigation of, honour based abuse.

I began my service as a constable moving steadily through a wide foundation of training and development. This allowed me to successfully transfer to detective duties having demonstrated an intelligent and competent eye for detail, enquiry and observation.
