Het creëren van new business is een nachtmerrie voor veel verkopers. De reden waarom niet elke verkoper new business wil doen is het feit dat de op angst gebaseerde kans op afwijzing groter is dan de kans op succes. Afwijzing wordt ervaren als een negatief signaal en veroorzaakt negatieve gevoelens die een tijdelijke fysieke en emotionele verlamming teweeg kunnen brengen (DeWall & Baumeister-2006), wat ertoe zou kunnen leiden dat mensen zich terugtrekken in plaats van actief hun gedrag aanpassen. Precies het tegenovergestelde gedrag is nodig om successen te boeken bij het verwerven van nieuwe klanten!Een tweede aspect die de verkoper vaak belemmert bij acquisitie is het gegeven dat veel verkopers van nature lui zijn. Zij concentreren zich op een beperkt aantal deals (lekker overzichtelijk) en doen aan referentie-selling (beperkte inspanning). Dit lukt alleen als het netwerk van de verkoper goed op orde is, de organisatie gestroomlijnd en in een hoogconjunctuur. Juist die luiheid staat haaks op het verwerven van nieuwe klanten: want 80% wordt pas klant na gemiddeld 5 contact momenten! Dit vergt methodiek (anders verliest men het overzicht), systematiek (anders verliest men zijn/haar reputatie) en het kost tijd. Tijd die de verkoper wil gebruiken om met een bestaande klant te gaan golfen, maar liever niet wil besteden aan new business!De kunst is dus die angst en aversie te overwinnen. Om die angst echt te overwinnen, moet de verkoper cold calling niet uit de weg gaan, maar moet er zich juist mee confronteren. Om de verkoper te helpen zijn doel te bereiken, doorloop ik drie fases met ze: denken, durven en doen. Mijn hands-on training zorgt voor bewustwording van hun potentie het overwinnen van aversie en angst en dat omzetten in succes. De tools die ik aanreik om van cold calling een succes te maken zijn verre van geavanceerd. Wat er nodig is? Outlook, Excel, een telefoon en een goed humeur! Kortom:New business bedrijven kunnen we allemaal!
