About Paulo Vargas Moniz
As the song goes, "It was twenty years ago today, ...", I was living in Cambridge. Kept returning. Recently, I went back as a visitor at DAMTP & Clare Hall, Visiting Fellow. Now, I am a Life Member. Top of the world. On that rainy, remote island surrounded by mist and fog, we go through very (!) happy moments. Life at Cambridge is far from dull; even the official college-cat gets plenty of aprés-lectures http://www.dfis.ubi.pt/~pmoniz/vet.avi I did my B.Sc, M.Sc, and PhD at the University of Lisbon. Currently, I am a Professor at UBI. Moreover, I am at CMA (http://wordpress.ubi.pt/cma/ ); before that, I was at CENTRA, IST. Been on SUSY quantum cosmology, trying to find an equation to foresee it all. Now looking at Chaology in Quantum cosmology, plus a few other 'transversal chutzpah'. I have been involved in teaching, setting up labs. Supervised PhDs and PDs, all from foreign countries, competitive funding.Outreach and administration are also on my ‘worldline’. Vice-rector (research and doctorate), ‘rough seas' routes, 'beach landings', holding fast, all hands on deck, world-level competitive rankings. That sort.Wrote a book (2 volumes) on SUSY-QC, preparing another about QC. Been @ Classical and Quantum Gravity, serving the editorial boards 8 years and currently at the Advisory Board. Recently, another book about higher education. I adapt from Wittgenstein's: Never imposing, I look for the correct ‘geodesic’, either in research, teaching, outreach or (academic) governance: Go for the cup, score, no flash, Piccadilly line, KingsX, train, home, tea. One's survival is tough, so again: "..Don't get involved in partial problems, but always take flight to where there is a free view over the whole single great problem... ".
