Representing the Power & Control Department in a management role. Organising maintenance strategies to provide safe and reliable electrical systems. Financial control of power and control asset spend. Achievements/Improvements made: Introduction of an electrical safety policy to the site. Using mobile computing techniques to streamline safety and maintenance checks, so that data from the field is transferred directly to databases. This allows supervisors to deal with issues instead of double handling paper forms. This was achieved using Beamex calibrator, Microsoft Office 365 tools, UltraTev2 PD Tester and Amtech ProDesign.

Leading a team of electrical engineers on a wide range of automation projects and upgrades. This involved preparation of capital expenditure application and cost & benefit analysis, detailed engineering design prior to project tendering, contractor supervision and final commissioning Achievements/Improvements made: My MSC dissertation was the development of a software tool to create DCS database files, PLC sections and documentation reducing application software development time by creating 90% of code automatically. To achieve this a complete rework of MCC, PLC and field wiring design was required.In 2013, I was one of two engineers tasked with managing the recovery of the site electrical systems after a catastrophic flood. This included 5 11kV substations, 30 motor control centres and associated PLCs. On completion I represented CEMEX at a week-long meeting defending all technical decisions made against FM Global’s industry experts.

Working with a DCS vendor’s engineers on the initial implementation of the site DCS system and support of the installed system. Working with the site and central Project Departments on projects with complete responsibility for DCS system design and development. PLC network and I/O design and interfacing to the installed cabling infrastructure. Assisted in the implementation and maintenance of the site expert system. Assisting the project teams with commissioning.

Working directly for the site Electrical Engineer on small automation projects

Worked on the South Ferriby site in the Electrical Department and then joined the Instrument Department in order to expand my knowledge.

Attended the Scunthorpe site training centre and from there carried out a tour of departments before gaining a permanent position as a maintenance electrician at the Medium Section Mill.
