The U.S. Naval Institute’s DARE Innovation Workshop is a three-day experience rooted in Design Thinking supported by the UC San Diego Center for Design-Driven Transformation. DARE challenges teams of participants to tackle two issues presented by one of the three Sea Service chiefs.

• Specialist in rapid prototyping for aerospace and defense. Hands-on experience with aerostructures, airframe mod, pods, radomes, electronic warfare / support, telemetry, and datalink projects• Leadership experience in all phases of the systems engineering and product development cycle from inception to delivery with an emphasis on speed and cost control• Business operations experience spans the full range of all day-to-day functions with an emphasis on project execution in rapid prototyping, small business environments• Business development / marketing experience includes all phases from market research and customer engagement to pursuit planning and proposal development. Presenter to Congressional staffs, senior military leadership, US Forest Service, NASA, academic audiences• Successfully led programs through dynamic post-acquisition environments, restructuring, and org changes during transitions from Coherent Systems Int’l (2006 defense startup) to acquisition by Argon ST (2007 publicly traded corp), and acquisition by The Boeing Company (2010)

• 11 years on active duty as a pilot and fleet replacement flight instructor for the Sea Control community flying S-3B Viking aircraft• Mission, tactics, training, and procedural expertise includes ISR, maritime strike, recovery tanking, mission tanking• Transitioned to the Reserves and pursued opportunities at a defense start-up related to the S-3B Viking when the west coast Sea Control community was disestablished in 2006 • Retired as a Commander (O-5) with 20 years combined active duty / reserve service

Program leadership scope included oversight of all Navy S-3B Viking aircraft squadrons in the US and overseas.

Aviation Maintenance Quality Assurance Program Manager and department head. Led a team of 20 cross-functional subject matter experts in a prominent technical and process improvement role.

Assigned to Tactical Support Center reserve component, NAS North Island, CA. Led watch teams providing operational, training, and C5I support to maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft operating in conjunction with carrier strike groups, expeditionary strike groups, counter-narcotics surveillance campaigns, and CNO special projects.
