As a leader, I believe in the power of teams supported with compassionate and human-centered leadership. Over the past 30 years, I've worked at amazing organizations, on many start-up projects and new businesses, and honed my perspective on leading teams with heart while delivering operational excellence at scale through the power of people and technology. My favorite leadership quote has guided me for many years and channels how I think about the role I've played as a strategic collaborator, leader and coach, also, where I am finding great synergy as an advisor: "Leadership is one of the highest forms of service. It is best exercised when it freely motivates others to a decision that is really theirs – but which may have never been reached without the leader’s beneficial influence.” Author unknownI'm evolving and exploring my passions with the gift of time. First and foremost, that means being a fully available spouse and partner after years of travel and high-paced jobs. My interests include gardening, reading a backlogged pile of books, and photgraphy. I am a fitness lover and am channeling that energy as a new Whidbey Island resident by getting out on the water as a kayaker & stand-up paddle boarder, wandering every trail I can find and long beach walks with my wife and best friend.

Program Director, Military AffairsMicrosoft Dec 2014 - Dec 2015Redmond, Washington, UsIn this role, reporting to the Vice President of Military Affairs, I led strategic program design and delivery, focusing on leading the IT industry in creating opportunities for military veterans, reservists and their families. My efforts included identifying strategic partnership opportunities with Veteran-Service Organizations and NGOs, government agencies, and technology industry participants.I've been on a passionate pursuit to make a difference in the lives of transitioning military service members and their families for over a decade. I believe that the under- and unemployment of military veterans is a significant social justice issue, an American competitiveness opportunity and should be considered part of the ongoing diversity opportunity in the technology industry. I had the good fortune to testify before the House Veterans Affairs Committee in early 2014 (https://veterans.house.gov/witness-testimony/mr-sean-kelley) which allowed me to reflect deeply on areas I think are important to this effort - STEM education, a 21st Century approach to job fairs, trusted access to data for use in data-driven career management and talent acquisition leadership and commitment to open doors more broadly to new talent pools. In my testimony, I proudly shared the success story for our signature program, the Microsoft Software & Systems Academy (http://military.microsoft.com/training/mssa/), which I created and championed within our company, and Microsoft's sustained history of efforts to support military veterans and their families. -
