Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) was envisioned in 1998, by Mr. G.K. Swamy, to educate the needy and deserving children of Uttarakhand and help them become self-evolving models of community transformation. Mrs and Mr Swamy began by tutoring children in their homes along with feeding them nutritious snacks. Eventually, this led to the establishment of PYDS in 2003, which received CBSE affiliation till class XII in 2013. Today, PYDS functions as a non-profit organization, supported by donations, and provides free education, meals, books, uniforms, transportation, and healthcare to over 500 students annually. Two-thirds of these students are girls. PYDS also runs a residential accelerated learning program called Navjeevan, which mainstreams children from remote, upper reaches of Uttarakhand to middle school. Since its inception, Navjeevan has helped 95 children from 10 districts of the state. The On-to-Life (OTL) program of PYDS supports its students in securing scholarships and interest-free loans for higher education. To date, 153 students have been supported through OTL. The PYDS mission is to empower students for adequate employability, and the success of the 142 alumni who are employed is a testament to this.

  Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) is a registered Society located in village Purkal, a semi-rural region on the outskirts of Dehradun, Uttarakhand. We provide quality education and holistic care through a CBSE affiliated school, from Class I-XII to children with potential from deeply needy and underprivileged families. This is done through a combination of high-quality academics, adequate nutrition, health care, and full exposure to co-curricular areas, at no cost to them. The ultimate objective is to prepare them for adequate employability. It is our endeavor to shape each child such that she/he becomes a contributing member of society, tomorrow. Over the last two years, more and more children have been motivated to join professional programs after finishing school. This is in line with our aim of preparing them for adequate employability upon completion of their education.
