CUBRID is a SQL-based database management system. It was originally developed by a Korean startup, CUBRID, Inc. over 10 years ago and has been open-sourced and developed by multiple companies. CUBRID FOUNDATION is to consolidate CUBRID open-source development activities and promote business values around it.

Our School is an NGO that runs community-based human development initiatives at Kep, Cambodia.

- Leadership in company-wide webOS strategy and delivered multiple releases to smart TV, smartwatches and information displays (digital signage)- Established Artificial Intelligence Lab at both headquarter and overseas. Owned the strategy and execution of it.- Architected North America R&D Center and led the change so it can transition from a technology delivery organization to an innovation leader.

Co-founded Acanvas, an art streaming platform startup. This was a two-year long innovation initiative led by me inside LG Electronics until we decided to spin off. Led forming the founding members, corporate, product and biz strategy, and product development. Completed two rounds of seed funding, kickstarter promotion and delivery of the products in global backers.

- Led corp-wide services platform and cloud organization for smart TV, connected appliances and mobile. The services platform includes membership, billing and payment, notification, appstore, search and recommendation, device management, etc.- Established big data analytics organization and replaced legacy systems by massive distributed analytics solutions based on hadoop and Splunk.- Improved key metrics in infrastructure operations including efficiency, reliability, performance and security.- Incubated Silicon Valley-based cloud innovation organization that enabled fitness services platform and image streaming platform.- Led strategy and development of webOS and IoT operating systems for smart TV, information displays, smart watches and connected appliances.

NHN NEXT is a premier school specialized for software development education. As the chairman of the board and president of the school, I have led all initiatives since its inception, which include establishing the organizational vision and the strategic plan, recruiting staff and faculties, developing curricula and administration policies, directing brand marketing and student recruiting activities, designing the space and facilities. The school successfully opened its first year in March, 2013 with 86 students selected out of 1,100 applicants.

Oversaw corp-wide technology work forces in global and led continuous improvements in org competencies, production performance, quality metric, and securing core technology assets. Here are major achievements throughout my leadership:Technology assets:- Developed profiling and optimization technology for web browsing in a massive scale.- Developed browser-independent markup technology.- Developed cloud-based voice recognition engine for voice search- Applied cloud-based feedback analysis technology for search ranking improvementCompetency management:- Developed a professional ladder system based on competency and accountability level, encompassing development, research, infrastructure engineering, quality control, security and database administration.- Developed training, goal setting and performance review system to be aligned with the professional ladder system.- Developed recruiting, selection and retention strategy for the talents.- Established highly-competent oversea dev centers at Romania and China- Directly supervised 15+ VPs and Executive VPs throughout the global technology divisions.Process innovations:- Innovated the project management process to increase the visibility of risks and resource utilization. Several hundreds of projects were benefited annually.- Established a sustained engineering process, encompassing customer support, triage, development, quality control, and release management. It improved time to deliver as well as organizational agility significantly.- Established a “continuous integration” dev process so that the quality of the codes could be managed throughout entire dev cycle.

Co-founded a startup, CUBRID Inc. Architected and developed a DBMS engine specialized for web applications. IP was successfully acquired by NHN in two years and CUBRID became available as open source.

Joined the data mining team as a founding member. Successfully launched two data mining algorithms for SQL Server 2000. Architected and developed the data mining engine for SQL Server 2005. Major contributions include the following:- Created a data mining language, DMX and made it as industry standard.- Implemented a DMX engine (training, browsing and prediction)- Developed data mining algorithms such as decision tree, regression tree, Bayesian network and neural network.- Applied data mining technology to Office search ranking based on click-through (feedback) analysis.

Helped the founder set up the technology org and led two projects for OLAP technology for oversea clients.

- Offered courses including data structure, computer algorithms, databases and operating systems.- Completed several academic research and industry projects around web and database integration technology.

- Architected and deveolped a memory-resident DBMS (Project FLASH).- Architected and developed a storage system for relational DBMSs (Project MIDAS).- Architected and developed an object-oriented DBMS (Project OMEGA)
